How a merge scores

A short note on how merging works in Sunmeld and why it decides who leads.

Most of a Sunmeld duel is about merges. This note explains how they work in the game, which is still in development for iOS and Android.

Same stage, one step up

You and the AI drop space stones into one shared tub. When two stones of the same stage touch, they become one stone of the next stage, from dust up to a sun. Bigger stones are harder to make, so they are worth more.

The one who merges, scores

The player whose stone causes a merge gets its score. That means a merge is never only about the tub. It is also a small step in the duel, and sometimes the best move is to set up a merge that your opponent cannot reach first.

Shared space, shared risk

Because the tub is shared, a big stone you leave behind is also a big stone your opponent can use. Choosing when to merge and when to wait is most of the game.

What is next

More notes on how the game is built will follow. There is no release date yet. When there is news, it will show up here and in the release notes.
